Hello
We checked into our shibuya hotel tonight, It is pretty fancy ppants. At the moment I am in an internet cafe. I feel a little bit seedy and hungover but not too bad. Everyone else seems good. Looked around at shops in shibuya today. Some of them are pretty cool. Yesterday we went to Harajuku and Shinjuku. Found a CD I had been looking for for ages but always had trouble getting (nifelheim - servants of darkness), also got a shirt and a jumper from the GAP shop. Just in time too because its damn cold at night here.
Harajuku is pretty good. We had crepe ice cream things for lunch which are awesome.
Like i mentioned before, at night we went to kareoke with an ex-work friend who lives here and had an awesome time. They have tambourines at the places and all you can drink. I had many gin and tonics.
Not sure of new years eve plans, I think we are heading over to roppongi to check out some places.
Oh well enough from me now - updates shall arrive sometime in the future.

Metal gig
We have been in tokyo for a couple of days now.
Last night we went to Kowia for a metal festival. We didn:t really know what to expect, but it turned out to be really good. Lots of cool bands, and happy people, and etc etc.
There isn`t really that much else to mention about that night actually.

The other tale to tell
Hello - there was another tale I had to tell and that was the tale of the second day we rented a car in Aomori. On this day the aim was to see Mt Hakkoda, the oirose stream and Towada lake.
We headed ooff - once again roads were snowy but it was more pretty and fluffy than the day before which was icy and slushy. We reached Mt Hakkoda san. The slopes looked very steep and the people skiing them looked skilled.
We caught the ropeway up to the top. The cable car trip took around 10-15 minutes. Once we got to the top it was amazing!! The fluffiest, finest powder I had ever seen. Also it was god damn freezing!!! At the bottom of the mountain we had purchased our obligitary ice creamu, so that at the top we could get into our t-shirts and get pictures at the top eating ice cream, which we all did. That was really cold.
The visibilty was quite small so we didn:t walk around a lot, but we did have a short stroll in the snow. Everyone found it a little difficult wading through knee to waist deep snow, a couple of people walked a little to close to some treest and fell in some snow holes.
After hakkoda san we set off to the rest of our places to see, but the snowed out roads foiled our plans. Instead we took a little walk around a park which had some hot spring lakes (chris particularly didn:t like the sulfury smell) and a few rocks with sulfur coming out.
I have decided from that day that I am determined how to cross country skii. It looks like bucket loads of fun, without the unneccesary adrenalin rush of skiing down a hill.

hello the keyboards here are supper annoying
Almost every time i use the keyboard i end up accidentally stuffing it up.
Anyway - there are a couple of tales I need to tell.
First there is the two days we rented a car in aomori. the first day the plan was to visit the snow monkeys and then Mt orzore and then yagen onsen.
We got to the snow monkey place, there were about 30 monkey chaps. They looked very cold. They were huddling together with eachother. Some were checking eachothers hair for wriggly fellows. there was one awesome little one who kept running to different parts of the enclosure and eating ice. I think he was trying to find the tastiest ice patch. They were pretty awesome to watch. chris was going to throw ice at one, but once he saw how cold they looked he felt sorry for them and didn:t do it.
Anyway - after the monkey place, we tried to go to mt orsore. we took the highway to get there, but after getting half way to the mountain the road closed. There was another road we could take, so we headed in that direction - again the road was closed.
We were ready to give up, but there was one more road to take. We thought what the hell and head down the last highway. This one was for yagen onsen not the mountain, but as it was so late we ditched the mountain attempt. It was dark, snowing and the roads were icy. We finally made it however, the road wasn:t closed! woohoo. We got it however, the road wasn:t closed! woohoo. We got out the car and found the onsen. Then as we headed inside, the man working there made the family cross sign - the onsen had closed.
hours of driving up dark snowy roads - and the damn thing was closed when we got there! We tried to find some outdoor hotsprings, but in the process almost got the car bogged in snow twice. After this we gave up and headed over to a familiar place - pizza hut! The pizzas were better than in australia but about 3 times as expensive so definately not worth it again, but worth the experience of trying take out food in another country.
Oh well - IBetter get ready to go out so i will have to l;eave the other tales for later

In Asakusa
Hello - just updating from Asakusa. Last night we went to Akihabara - also known as `electric town` - saw some interesting things and some disturbing things.
Chris lost his Japan rail pass. We looked all over the place, then went back to the subway station we went to but couldn:t find it. our last hope was the JR station. chris met with the station master and filled in paperwork and answered questions for around 15 minutes. After all this the guy went behind the desk, picked up chris` JR pass and handed it to him - hooorah!

Waiting for Chris
Chris is getting ready and we are waiting for him to go get our car. Speaking of words with Chris in it, it was Christmas yesterday. We went to Hirosaki castle and it was not that big. It was interesting to look at however and there was a playground where chris and jeff practised doing chin ups - I even managed to do one.
Once back in Aomori we had happy fun christmas time with some food and drinkies. We got a video on demand service that they have here and watched terminator: salvation. It was ok.
Today we are going to hopefully go to wakinosawa to see some monkeys and to mt orsore and yagen onsen. Will let you know of our luck!

Merry christmas again
hello - I am waiting here for a little bit longer than I thought so I will give a more detailed update. We arrived in Aomori yesterday and explored the town.
Nothing extremely exciting to report yet - hopefully when we recieve our rental car we can explore some of the more interesting sights such as Japans northern most monkey sanctuary and some onsens etc. etc.
Today we aren:t completely sure of what to do, either explore the town or head over to Hirosaki where there is apparently a very nice castle.
Once again Merry Christmas!"!"""r4%46o434890t

Last morning in hakodate
Good morning!
It is our last morning in hakodate. yesterday we planned to go to all the places we missed over the first few days. First on the list was to visit a CD shop that jeff wanted to go to. We got there and found out it was closed on wednesdays. Then we went to visit a clothes shop that chris and I wanted to go to, we found out it was closed on wednesdays. Then we went to find a bar that we all wanted to go to, it was also closed.
Ironically, I also found out the reason why we couldnt get into the onsen yesterday - it is closed on every 2nd and 4th tuesday, the lonely planet guide even said so - whoops! If only we swapped our itinerary for those two days.
Anywhoo, we headed over to lucky perriot again - jeff and chris both got the biggest burger on the menu - the Hakodate burger. It had a meat pattie, chicken layer, potatoe layer, chicken shnitzel, 2 sets of burger buns and an egg for good measure. They both completely finished them off.
After that adventure we headed back to the hotel - had some `bad boys` (i.e. alcoholic beverages) and went to our favorite bar - october 28. They let us know that Aomori people are very shy.
Today we head off to Aomori - I have no idea what to expect. Hopefullu the onsen experience will not allude me once again!

the keyboards here are annoying
the keyboards here are really annoying. If you accidentally press a button, of which the one i am referring to Iam unsure, then either you type in japanese characters or all your sentances start to get copied and repasted at earlier/later stages of typing. it annoys me to no end and is happening now, so the update i was about to make, Ishall defer to a later time when the keyboard is not being annoying.
Catchj you all soon.
Catchj you all soon.
Today
Today we spent all day walking around for an onsen. We got lost twice, and when we finally got there it was closed for restoration - whoops!
After that we found some shrines and took some photos, then we went up the ropeway to the top of mount hakodate. We had ice cream and took photos.
At night we went to The Hakodate brewery for dinner. Then we decided to do washing, now we are waiting for washing to be done.
Hoorah!

sorry i havnt updated in so long
Sorry I havnt updated in so long. Just lots of stuff to do and little time to do it in. I think our last update was on our first night in hakodate or something so I will update you with events from then on. pictures take a little time to download so I wont do it now, but when we have a lazy afternoonm or something I will make an effort to put them up.
First day in hakodate we went to the pentagonal western fort. It was definately shaped like a pentagon. Chris harrassed/introduced himself to some of the local japanese girls. At the end of our fort visit we went up to the observation tower which was cool. When we came down we were supposed to walk through a little lobby then exit, but a woman who was hosting a large group of old japanese people asked us to come downt he stairs and talk to them. She asked us about our jobs etc and our time in hakodate. It seemed more exciting at the time then how it is turning out when I write it now - oh well.
For lunch we went to a place called lucky pierrot which seems to be a popular hamburger joint. We ordered their second biggest burger which warrented a bell ringing and a speech (in which we have no idea what was said) to congratulate us for the heroism required to attempt eating such a burger. Naturally everything got eaten.
That night we headed off to a bar called mojito. I had a mojito. Then we came home.
The day after (which is yesterdat I think) we went to hakodate quasi national park. We looked around etc. Then went over to onuma national park for some beers and awesome cheesy things. They were super awesome cool.
Chris and jeff started their drinking escapades at that point, and continued them back into hakodate. When we got to the station some drank japanese man ushered us through the station as he approved of our australian nationality。At first when he thought we were from the US he didn:t seem so impressed.
That night we ended up at a bar we visited last time we were here and it was just as friendly and awesome. There isn:t that much interesting to say withotu showing photos but as I said before - not enough time to upload.
Jeff and I just had breakfast. Hugh is still asleep - He fell over breakfast. Hugh is still asleep - He fell over a couple of still asleep - He fell over a couple of times in the snow and is having trouble walking. Chris is throwing up upstairs because he is so hungover. So it looks like just jeff and I.

First night Hakodate
We were going to go out but then got lazy and couldnt be bothered so we are just staying in tonight. Hugh is trying to feel better and the rest of us are just watching japanese tv and wondering what is going on. I am about to try and upload some photos.
Bento box for dinner
some clouds on the airplane trip to japan.
Then there was a picture of jeff and christ with about 10 hours sleep between them for the last two days, then there was some snowy scenery that we saw on the train on the way to hakodate.
I still havn;t tried to use a bidet soon. Maybe I will in the next day or two. I know its more hygenic that toilet paper but there is some weird feeling I have about it.
Also, all 7 11 ATMs decided not to be able to allow mastercard credit cards so we have no easy way to get money. hoorah!
Anyway I think I will go to sleepies or something now. More excitement tomorrow!
Hakodate
Hello just a quick update - photos maybe later. We arrived in Japan. Hoorah! Went to ikeburkuro to stay and pretty much fell asleep straight away - travelled to hakodate today. Not sure if there was more laughing, crying or sympathetic vomit feeling. Hugh spewed up on each train trip we took. On the first one it was all over the isle in our train car, a chair and on some guys suit jacket. We felt really bad and offered him money for dry cleaning but he declined. I had no idea what the correct japanese etiquette is for when you throw up on someone.
The second time he had a plastic bag and I was sitting next to him. vomit after vomit after vomit. I still remeber it now.
Anyway he has stopped vomiting and I think he might be feeling a little better. Will update you with more when more time has been had.

The night before the night before
It is the night before the night before we go to Japan. I have bought chocolate for work, and eaten some chocolate. Megan is eating some chocolate and talking to me about typing. I recently recived an awesome beanie from my family with heaps of baubles and that makes me happy.
I will not be getting much sleep it seems, but my excitment for the trip ahead will fuel my day at work tomorrow.
I said goodnight to our dog Zoe tonight, and left her in the trusty care of Jeffs parents. It is one of the things I will miss most about australia, our tiny little ball of fluff, but I know she will be happy.
Megan is playing bass now. I really should go to bed. Anyway - Stay tuned for some actual holiday updates.
