Hello - there was another tale I had to tell and that was the tale of the second day we rented a car in Aomori. On this day the aim was to see Mt Hakkoda, the oirose stream and Towada lake.
We headed ooff - once again roads were snowy but it was more pretty and fluffy than the day before which was icy and slushy. We reached Mt Hakkoda san. The slopes looked very steep and the people skiing them looked skilled.
We caught the ropeway up to the top. The cable car trip took around 10-15 minutes. Once we got to the top it was amazing!! The fluffiest, finest powder I had ever seen. Also it was god damn freezing!!! At the bottom of the mountain we had purchased our obligitary ice creamu, so that at the top we could get into our t-shirts and get pictures at the top eating ice cream, which we all did. That was really cold.
The visibilty was quite small so we didn:t walk around a lot, but we did have a short stroll in the snow. Everyone found it a little difficult wading through knee to waist deep snow, a couple of people walked a little to close to some treest and fell in some snow holes.
After hakkoda san we set off to the rest of our places to see, but the snowed out roads foiled our plans. Instead we took a little walk around a park which had some hot spring lakes (chris particularly didn:t like the sulfury smell) and a few rocks with sulfur coming out.
I have decided from that day that I am determined how to cross country skii. It looks like bucket loads of fun, without the unneccesary adrenalin rush of skiing down a hill.
